ECO SPINDLES AWARDED AS THE INDUSTRY LEADER AT THE WORLD CONFERENCE ON WASTE MANAGEMENT (WCWM 2021)
The topic of discussion pertaining to the scarcity in resources in the world has been a reiterating fact but less concerned about and acted upon in the pursuit of preserving them. Human intervention to natural life resulting from a variety of activities have brought in massive destruction to the standard of living and does continue improvising more harm than good with the access to the advancement in technology. ‘Waste’ as a matter of fact has been a long standing issue when disposal is concerned against the availability of resources and the requirement for better management of Waste is of utmost importance.
The 2nd International Conference on Waste Management (WCWM 2021) Co – hosted by Tsinghua University and the Association for Environment Management and Sustainability (AEMS) was organized on the 04th – 05th March 2021 in the form of a Virtual Conference. The Conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM) in collaboration with Sustainable Practices, USA, SafeEnviro, UK and INSEE Ecocycle Lanka, Sri Lanka. The Conference was Co-Chaired by Dr. Dongbei YUE, Associate Professor and Associate Dean, School of Environment, Tsinghua University, China and Dr. Randika Jayasinghe, Head of the Department, Department of Biosystems Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. The Keynote Forum was represented by Prof. Ajith de Alwis from the Coordinating Secretariat for Science Technology and Innovation (COSTI), Ministry of Science Technology and Research, Sri Lanka, Emma Burlow, Head of Circular Economy, Resource Futures, United Kingdom and Mr. Sanjeewa Chulakumara, Director, INSEE Ecocycle Lanka (Pvt) Limited, Sri Lanka. The plenary forum was represented by Dr. Madhavi Venkatesan from Northeastern University, USA, Eng (Dr) A.G. Thusitha Sugathapala from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and Dr. Mayuri Wijayasundara from Deakin University, Australia.
The special mention of the Conference which received the spotlight of the day’s event was the special Award awarded with the main objective of encouraging innovations in the Industry to bridge study to industry and promote towards finding equitable solutions with the aim of constructing a guaranteed future for the generations to come. In this endeavor, subject to evaluation by an expert panel of judges, ECO SPINDLES (PVT) Ltd was awarded the ‘Waste Management – Industry Leader Award’ for creating high-grade yarn and filaments using plastic waste with the objective of converting renewable resources into innovative products to reduce the Carbon footprint made in our sphere. The Association for Environment Management and Sustainability (AEMS) is a Not for Profit Association established with the vision of eliminating adverse impacts to the Environment and conserve natural resources for a sustainable future.
